Psalm 6 – Common English Bible

For the music leader. On stringed instruments. According to the eighth.^[a] A psalm of David.

6 Please, Lord,
    don’t punish me when you are angry;
    don’t discipline me when you are furious.
² Have mercy on me, Lord,
    because I’m frail.
Heal me, Lord,
    because my bones are shaking in terror!
³ My whole body^[b] is completely terrified!
        But you, Lord! How long will this last?
⁴ Come back to me, Lord! Deliver me!
    Save me for the sake of your faithful love!
⁵ No one is going to praise you
    when they are dead.
Who gives you thanks
    from the grave?^[c]

⁶ I’m worn out from groaning.
    Every night, I drench my bed with tears;
    I soak my couch all the way through.
⁷ My vision fails because of my grief;
    it’s weak because of all my distress.
⁸ Get away from me, all you evildoers,
    because the Lord has heard me crying!
⁹ The Lord has listened to my request.
    The Lord accepts my prayer.
¹⁰ All my enemies will be ashamed
    and completely terrified;
    they will be defeated
    and ashamed instantly.

² (6-3) Помилуй меня, Господи, ибо я немощен; исцели меня, Господи, ибо кости мои потрясены;

³ (6-4) и душа моя сильно потрясена; Ты же, Господи, доколе?

⁴ (6-5) Обратись, Господи, избавь душу мою, спаси меня ради милости Твоей,

⁵ (6-6) ибо в смерти нет памятования о Тебе: во гробе кто будет славить Тебя?

⁶ (6-7) Утомлен я воздыханиями моими: каждую ночь омываю ложе мое, слезами моими омочаю постель мою.

⁷ (6-8) Иссохло от печали око мое, обветшало от всех врагов моих.

⁸ (6-9) Удалитесь от меня все, делающие беззаконие, ибо услышал Господь голос плача моего,

⁹ (6-10) услышал Господь моление мое; Господь примет молитву мою.

¹⁰ (6-11) Да будут постыжены и жестоко поражены все враги мои; да возвратятся и постыдятся мгновенно.

Psalm 12 – Common English Bible

For the music leader. According to the Sheminith.^[a] A psalm of David.

Help, Lord, because the godly are all gone;
    the faithful have completely disappeared
    from the human race!
² Everyone tells lies to everyone else;
    they talk with slick speech and divided hearts.
³ Let the Lord cut off all slick-talking lips
    and every tongue that brags and brags,
⁴     that says, “We’re unbeatable with our tongues!
    Who could get the best of us with lips like ours?”

⁵ But the Lord says,
    “Because the poor are oppressed,
    because of the groans of the needy,
    I’m now standing up.
    I will provide the help they are gasping for.”^[b]
6 The Lord’s promises are pure,
    like silver that’s been refined in an oven,
    purified seven times over!

⁷ You, Lord, will keep us,^[c]
    protecting us from this generation forever.
⁸ The wicked roam all over the place,
    while depravity is praised by human beings.

 (11-1) ^^Начальнику хора. На восьмиструнном. Псалом Давида.^^ (11-2) Спаси, Господи, ибо не стало праведного, ибо нет верных между сынами человеческими.

² (11-3) Ложь говорит каждый своему ближнему; уста льстивы, говорят от сердца притворного.

³ (11-4) Истребит Господь все уста льстивые, язык велеречивый,

⁴ (11-5) [тех], которые говорят: 'языком нашим пересилим, уста наши с нами; кто нам господин'?

⁵ (11-6) Ради страдания нищих и воздыхания бедных ныне восстану, говорит Господь, поставлю в безопасности того, кого уловить хотят.

⁶ (11-7) Слова Господни--слова чистые, серебро, очищенное от земли в горниле, семь раз переплавленное.

⁷ (11-8) Ты, Господи, сохранишь их, соблюдешь от рода сего вовек.

Evening

Psalm 94 – Common English Bible

Lord, avenging God—
    avenging God, show yourself!
² Rise up, judge of the earth!
    Pay back the arrogant exactly what they deserve!
³ How long will the wicked—oh, Lord!—
    how long will the wicked win?
⁴ They spew arrogant words;
    all the evildoers are bragging.
⁵ They crush your own people, Lord!
    They abuse your very own possession.
⁶ They kill widows and immigrants;
    they murder orphans,
⁷     saying all the while,
    “The Lord can’t see it;
        Jacob’s God doesn’t know
        what’s going on!”

⁸ You ignorant people better learn quickly.
    You fools—when will you get some sense?
⁹ The one who made the ear,
    can’t he hear?
The one who formed the eye,
    can’t he see?
¹⁰ The one who disciplines nations,
    can’t he punish?
The one who teaches humans,
    doesn’t he know?^[a]
11 The Lord does indeed know human thoughts,
    knows that they are nothing but a puff of air.

¹² The people you discipline, Lord, are truly happy—
    the ones you teach from your Instruction—
¹³     giving them relief from troubling times
        until a pit is dug for the wicked.
¹⁴ The Lord will not reject his people;
    he will not abandon his very own possession.
¹⁵ No, but justice will once again meet up with righteousness,
    and all whose heart is right will follow after.

¹⁶ Who will stand up for me against the wicked?
    Who will help me against evildoers?
¹⁷ If the Lord hadn’t helped me,
    I^[b] would live instantly in total silence.
¹⁸ Whenever I feel my foot slipping,
    your faithful love steadies me, Lord.
¹⁹ When my anxieties multiply,
    your comforting calms me down.

²⁰ Can a wicked ruler be your ally;
    one who wreaks havoc by means of the law?
²¹ The wicked gang up against the lives of the righteous.
    They condemn innocent blood.
²² But the Lord is my fortress;
    my God is my rock of refuge.
²³ He will repay them for their wickedness,
    completely destroy them because of their evil.
    Yes, the Lord our God will completely destroy them.

³ (93-3) Доколе, Господи, нечестивые, доколе нечестивые торжествовать будут?

⁴ (93-4) Они изрыгают дерзкие речи; величаются все делающие беззаконие;

⁵ (93-5) попирают народ Твой, Господи, угнетают наследие Твое;

⁶ (93-6) вдову и пришельца убивают, и сирот умерщвляют

⁷ (93-7) и говорят: 'не увидит Господь, и не узнает Бог Иаковлев'.

⁸ (93-8) Образумьтесь, бессмысленные люди! когда вы будете умны, невежды?

²² (93-22) Но Господь--защита моя, и Бог мой--твердыня убежища моего,

Hebrew Bible

Lamentations 1:17-22 – Common English Bible

Zion spreads out her hands; she has no comforter.
The Lord commanded Jacob’s enemies to surround him.
Jerusalem is just a piece of garbage to them.

¹⁸ The Lord is right, because I disobeyed his word.
Listen, all you people; look at my suffering.
My young women and young men have gone away as prisoners.

¹⁹ I called to my lovers, but they deceived me.
My priests and my elders have perished in the city;
they were looking for food to survive.

²⁰ Pay attention, Lord, for I am in trouble. My stomach is churning;
my heart is pounding inside me because I am so bitter.
In the streets the sword kills; in the house it is like death.

²¹ People heard that I was groaning, that I had no comforter.
All my enemies heard about my distress; they were thrilled that you had done this.
Bring the day you have announced so they become like me!

²² Let all their evil come before you.
Then injure them like you’ve injured me because of all my wrong acts;
my groans are many, my heart is sick.

    но они меня предали.
Священники и старцы мои
    умирали в городе,
ища себе пищи,

Epistle

2 Corinthians 1:8-22 – Common English Bible

 Brothers and sisters, we don’t want you to be unaware of the troubles that we went through in Asia. We were weighed down with a load of suffering that was so far beyond our strength that we were afraid we might not survive. ⁹ It certainly seemed to us as if we had gotten the death penalty. This was so that we would have confidence in God, who raises the dead, instead of ourselves.  

¹⁰ God rescued us from a terrible death, and he will rescue us. We have set our hope on him that he will rescue us again, ¹¹ since you are helping with your prayer for us. Then many people can thank God on our behalf for the gift that was given to us through the prayers of many people.

Paul explains his change of plans

¹² We have conducted ourselves with godly sincerity and pure motives in the world, and especially toward you. This is why we are confident, and our conscience confirms this. We didn’t act with human wisdom but we relied on the grace of God. ¹³ We don’t write anything to you except what you can read and also understand. I hope that you will understand totally ¹⁴ since you have already understood us partly. Understand that in the day of our Lord Jesus, we will make you proud as you will also make us proud.

¹⁵ Because I was sure of this, I wanted to visit you first so that you could have a second opportunity to see me. ¹⁶ I wanted to visit you on my way to Macedonia, and then come to you again on my way back from Macedonia, at which point I was hoping you would help me on my way to Judea.

¹⁷ So I wasn’t unreliable when I planned to do this, was I? Or do I make decisions with a substandard human process so that I say “Yes, yes” and “No, no” at the same time? ¹⁸ But as God is faithful, our message to you isn’t both yes and no. ¹⁹ God’s Son, Jesus Christ, is the one who was preached among you by us—through me, Silvanus, and Timothy—he wasn’t yes and no. In him it is always yes. ²⁰ All of God’s promises have their yes in him. That is why we say Amen through him to the glory of God.

²¹ God is the one who establishes us with you in Christ and who anointed us.  

²² God also sealed us and gave the Spirit as a down payment in our hearts.

Братья, я хочу, чтобы вы знали о том, что мы пережили в провинции Азия^[a]. Выпавшие там на нашу долю страдания настолько превосходили все наши силы, что мы потеряли надежду остаться в живых. ⁹ Казалось, что мы уже получили смертный приговор, но так было для того, чтобы мы научились полагаться не на себя, а на Бога, Который воскрешает мертвых.  

¹⁰ Он избавил нас от смертельной опасности и впредь избавит. На Него мы надеемся, и Он спасет нас. ¹¹ Только вы помогайте нам своими молитвами, чтобы многие возблагодарили Бога за то, что Он был так милостив к нам по их молитвам.

Изменение в планах Павла

¹² Мы хвалимся тем – и наша совесть может быть этому порукой, – что мы и в этом мире, и в особенности в наших отношениях с вами, поступали честно^[b] и искренне, и это нам было дано от Бога. Мы поступали не по «мудрости» этого мира, но по Божьей благодати. ¹³ Во всем, что мы вам написали, нет ничего, что вы, прочитав, не смогли бы понять. Я надеюсь, что, поняв нас до конца, – ¹⁴ а отчасти вы нас уже понимаете, – в День возвращения Господа Иисуса вы сможете хвалиться нами так же, как и мы вами.

¹⁵ Я уверен в этом и поэтому хотел бы сначала прийти к вам, чтобы вы дважды получили благодать. ¹⁶ Я собирался побывать у вас по пути в Македонию, а затем еще раз посетить вас на обратном пути, и тогда вы помогли бы мне отправиться в Иудею.  

¹⁷ Может, вам кажется, что это решение было необдуманным? Или, может, я, как это водится у людей, говорю в одно и то же время то «да», то «нет»?  

¹⁸ Заверяю вас перед Богом, Который верен: то, что говорю вам, я говорю без колебаний. ¹⁹ В Сыне Божьем Иисусе Христе, Которого вам возвещали я, Силуан и Тимофей, нет никакой неопределенности, в Нем всегда лишь только «да». ²⁰ Все обещания Божьи подтвердились в Иисусе Христе! Поэтому и мы говорим через Него во славу Бога: «Аминь».

²¹ Бог делает и нас, и вас непоколебимыми в Христе. Он совершил над нами помазание ²² и запечатлел нас Своей печатью. Он вложил в наши сердца Своего Духа как залог того, что Он нам обещал.

Mark 11:27-33 – Common English Bible

Controversy over authority

²⁷ Jesus and his disciples entered Jerusalem again. As Jesus was walking around the temple, the chief priests, legal experts, and elders came to him. ²⁸ They asked, “What kind of authority do you have for doing these things? Who gave you this authority to do them?”

²⁹ Jesus said to them, “I have a question for you. Give me an answer, then I’ll tell you what kind of authority I have to do these things. ³⁰  Was John’s baptism of heavenly or of human origin? Answer me.”

³¹ They argued among themselves, “If we say, ‘It’s of heavenly origin,’ he’ll say, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ ³² But we can’t say, ‘It’s of earthly origin.’” They said this because they were afraid of the crowd, because they all thought John was a prophet. ³³ They answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”

Jesus replied, “Neither will I tell you what kind of authority I have to do these things.”

²⁷ Они снова пришли в Иерусалим, и, когда Иисус ходил в храме, к Нему подошли первосвященники, учители Закона и старейшины.

²⁸ – Чьей властью Ты это делаешь? – спросили они. – Кто дал Тебе власть делать это?  
²⁹ Иисус ответил:

– Я задам вам вопрос. Ответьте Мне, и тогда Я вам скажу, чьей властью Я это делаю.  

³⁰ Иоанн получил право крестить с небес или от людей? Ответьте Мне!

³¹ Они стали рассуждать между собой:

– Если мы скажем, что с небес, то Он спросит: «Так почему же вы ему не поверили?».  
³² Сказать: «От людей» – нельзя.
Потому что они боялись народа, ведь все считали, что Иоанн был настоящим пророком.

³³ И они ответили:

– Мы не знаем.

Иисус сказал:

– Тогда и Я вам не скажу, чьей властью Я это делаю.
